OAK GROVE UMC CELEBRATING 30 YEARS – Oak Grove United Methodist Church will celebrate its 30th anniversary at its present site on Oak Grove Road, Cohoctah Township on Sunday, August 8. The celebration will begin with a special worship service at 9:45 a.m. The Rev. Lawson Crane will be preaching that morning. Following the service we will have a dinner in the fellowship hall. There will be display boards with pictures from all congregations, weddings, graduations, anniversaries, and other special occasions. There will also be a DVD of pictures of interest playing. The Oak Grove Methodist Church dates back to 1835, when meetings began in homes, barns, schoolhouses and sometimes in the open air. In 1863 they met in a school. In May of 1872 construction was started for a church and it was completed in the fall of 1872. In 1971 and 1972 the Oak Grove Methodist congregation was joined by the congregations of Cohoctah and Salem. Shortly after that time, there was a dream of a new church building. After many prayers and lots of hard work, the dream came true and the first church service was held on August 10, 1980 at the present location, 6686 Oak Grove Road, Howell, Michigan.
The Rev. Joy Chong Won (current pastor) and the congregation invite everyone to come and celebrate the 30 years as the ‘light on the hill’ just outside the village of Oak Grove. For more information, you can contact the church office at (517) 546-3942.
